The 2022 AMA\NATC Supplemental Rules have been posted here. Everyone is encouraged to read the entire document but the summary of major changes are included below: New requirements for issuing Manufactures and Press bibs. (NATC Supplemental Rules, Sec. 14) 14.A: Two Red bibs will be issued to each Manufacturer to allow Manufacturer personnel access to the Course (loop), but under no circumstances, can it be used to access the sections. Representatives of the Manufacturer must meet the same requirements as other riders on the course (i.e., AMA Membership, sign release) and possess enough ability to navigate the loop in a safe manner. Manufacturer’s bibs can only be issued during signup and technical inspections. The Motorcycle being used by the representative must go through and pass technical inspection (other than jersey and number plate requirements) as all other motorcycles on the loop. 14.B: The Trial-Master of each event can deny issuance of a manufacturer’s bib and furthermore can remove the bib for cause. Class name change: Clubwoman (was Women Clubman) Year End Points: 10.D: 1 additional championship point shall be awarded to the rider with the lowest loop score on each loop. In case of a tie for lowest score on a loop, no points would be awarded. Exhibition Class (NATC Supplemental Rules, Sec. 2.C) 2.C.15: Exhibition Class is a non-competition class (no points or awards are earned) – The rider must display the color number plate of the class they will ride. The rider must also qualify in age or motorcycle displacement designated for classes restricted because of age and/or Motorcycle displacement. The rider will be treated like every other rider at the event with all the rules that apply. No rider can display the number plate color of the Pro class or ride the “Pro line” unless first obtaining a Top-Class Credential. Minder Requirements (NATC Supplemental Rules. Sec. 4) 4.6: A Minder must sign all required release forms and wear approved riding apparel and wear the minder bib on their person during competition. (Name on the back of their jersey is optional) 4.7: A Minder must abide by all applicable rules. Minders are only allowed in the Sections when their Riders are attempting a Section or as otherwise allowed by the Observer. Any penalty assigned by an observer to a minder will be added to their riders score. 4.9: Minders or other competitors may assist other Minders, with approval from the observer. 4.13: The Trial-Master of each event can, for cause, deny issuance of a minder bib and furthermore can remove the bib from use. If you've ridden a NATC trials event sometime in the last 40 years you've likely crossed paths with 21-time class champion and NATC Hall-Of-Fame member Bill de Garis. Now at 80 years young he shares some of his amazing stories riding motorcycles in various parts of the world. Bill de Garis - "a life of adventure" on the Trials Australia Podcast. And speaking of the NATC Hall Of Fame, the following new members were recently added following the Oct 2021 Board Meeting:
It is very difficult to report that one of our wonderful trials members has passed away, Paul Hassler, from Albuquerque, NM. Paul was a loving father to Nathan and Rachel. They both went on to be NATC fixtures with many podiums and championships. Paul and his wife Lauri accompanied Rachel to the TDN competitions supporting her and the team. For many years they were the organizers of Team New Mexico, hauling bikes and gear all over the United States so that other NM riders could fly in ride and enjoy the national event.
Below is a loving tribute from his wife Lauri. We couldn’t have said it any better than she has. He will be greatly missed by everyone in the trials community. “The words are so hard to find. I’ve lost my love and life of almost 40 years. Paul passed away on December 30 from complications of CHF. In 2008, he was given a new lease on life with a pig valve and a cow valve. He chose tissue valves because he wanted to continue to share in the passion that he and our kids loved – –riding trials. He taught them both how to ride at the age of five and supported them every step of the way into adulthood. Nathan and Rachel are his greatest pride and joy. His other passion in life was music and he taught me everything I know about music. He always quizzed me about song titles and artists and gave me little tidbits of musical knowledge. His favorite songs always brought him to tears. He was proud to say that he had 25,000 songs on his phone. He loved to cook and eat and take pictures of food. He had a very clever sense of humor and his “dad jokes“ kept us laughing. He loved his insurance business of 33+ years and his clients were what he cherished. He loved to listen to peoples’ stories, and like his dad, he was a gifted storyteller. Paul and I were fortunate to share so many tears of joy and sorrow in building our life together. He took care of me and our family and always put our needs first. He was an amazing husband and father. I don’t know what we’ll do without him. Rest in peace, Paulie. I will always love you” Congratulations to Pat Smage for his record setting 12th National Championship and all the other 2021 class champions noted below. Dear MotoTrials enthusiast,
I have great news to report about the last rounds of our series. Our friends, the New Mexico Trials Association, have agreed to host the last two rounds (3 & 4) of the Western series, which will also be rounds 7 & 8 of our national series! These events will be held in Roswell, New Mexico on October 2 & 3 (the same dates as the cancelled Oregon rounds). Thanks to the spirit of the NMTA and all their club members, this has come together in an extremely short period of time. There is a lot of work ahead, if you are planning on attending these Nationals and have someone travelling with you that would like to volunteer as Observer, or helper in another capacity, please reach out. Watch social media, or checkout the Mototrial.com website, for the most current event information. The event flyer is here. This is the best-case scenario to finish our season, thanks again to the NMTA. Brad Baumert Chief Enthusiast Officer North American Trials Council |
